Tire Wear

Tires often give their owners signs of problems in plenty of time to have them corrected. Learn to "read" these early warning signs and you can prevent many wear problems that shorten tire life by thousands of miles.

Always remove tires from service when they reach two thirty-seconds of an inch (2/32") remaining tread depth. All new tires have treadwear indicators which appear as smooth bands in the tread grooves when they wear to the two thirty-seconds of an inch (2/32") level. Many wet weather accidents result from skidding on bald or nearly bald tires. Excessively worn tires are more susceptible to penetrations.
