Line-Haul
Line-Haul
Vehicles in line-haul operation travel mainly from city to city (or terminal to terminal) with distances of greater than 320 km/200 miles between stops. These vehicles use limited-access highways, so there are very few or no stops between endpoints. Tires for line-haul operations are built to resist the irregular wear that can result from the relatively slow rate of wear experienced under these conditions.
Regional/Pickup & Delivery
Regional Pickup and Delivery
Commercial vehicles that use paved highways and travel less than 320 km/200 miles between stops are considered to be in regional pickup and delivery service. Often, these vehicles deliver goods within populated areas, making frequent stops and turns. Regional pickup and delivery tires are constructed to resist fast wear from scrubbing caused by frequent turning.
Mixed-Service/On-/Off- Highway
Mixed-Service/On-/Off- Highway
When working trucks are used off-highway a significant percentage of the time, they are considered to be in a mixed-service vocation. Examples of mixed-service operations are logging, construction and waste hauling. Due to the severe conditions mixed-service tires encounter, they are designed for resistance to sidewall impacts as well as chipping and chunking of the tread.
