Julius Melendez
Team #6 — Dos Locos Pilotos
Grammy® Award winner and former Santana trumpeter, Julius Melendez, feels fortunate to finally have a real opportunity to demonstrate his driving skills and ability. Julius' jokes that his passion for cars began the first time he opened a car door. All kidding aside, his says that he owes his love of driving to his cousin. When Julius was 8 years old, his cousin took him on a spirited ride along the northern coast in Puerto Rico in a Plymouth Barracuda. Julius says that it gave him "a rush feeling that I still can't shake." Although most people know him for his musical talents, Julius has a life-long interest in everything automotive. He describes his driving style as "smooth, aggressive, defensive, focused and heads-up." And Julius believes that patience, dedication and talent are the keys to winning the Dunlop Drivers Cup — attributes that this driver has.
