Be an F.O.B. Along 128, in Professor Valley, John Hauer can look across his land to the very spot where the West was won, repeatedly, in such films as Wagon Master, Rio Grande, hell, even City Slickers 2. And yet, what folks mostly want to hear about is Hauer's dog, Blender, a Redbone hound whose grifting act is legend in the valley. Blender will spot a raft drifting down the Colorado past his owner's house, then paddle alongside until the rafters let him aboard and feed him. Several miles later, he'll wander back out onto 128 and stand in traffic. When a car stops, he'll lift his paws to the window and wait for the driver to read his tag and take him home. It's happened so many times that Hauer has made T-shirts reading "I am an F.O.B. (Friend of Blender)." To get yours, keep your eyes peeled for a wet-haired hound on the side of the road.
