Dunlop Chosen as Original Equipment on 2007 Jaguar XK

AKRON, Ohio, Jan. 23, 2006 — Jaguar has selected two Dunlop performance tires for the 2007 Jaguar XK coupe and convertible. Dunlop will supply both 19- and 20-inch tires for the luxury sports car, which will be sold globally in the spring.

“This is an important car for Jaguar, and it renews an historic and successful relationship between two great brands,” said Benjamin Willot, director, original equipment sales and marketing for Dunlop in Europe, based in Brussels.

According to Willot, Jaguar and Dunlop worked together for more than two years to fine-tune the tires for “fluent handling, responsiveness and road holding” on the all-aluminum XK, three priorities specified by Jaguar engineers.

The new XK models are fitted with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx ultra-performance tires in 255/35R20 for the front and 285/30R20 for the rear. The Sport Maxx features a Multi Radius Tread design that allows for more contact with the road, Willot added. The additional rubber on the road improves the tire's dry-handling capabilities.

The even pressure distribution in the tire footprint also facilitates a smooth transition from straight driving into cornering, he said. The directional tread pattern provides outstanding wet traction as well.

Dunlop SP Sport 01 asymmetric high-performance tires are fitted on XK models with 19-inch wheels due to the tire’s blend of performance, handling and comfort. SP Sport 01 245/40R19 tires are used on the front and 275/35R19 on the rear.

Refinement is a key feature for the new Jaguar XK, and both SP Sport Maxx and the SP Sport 01 tires feature a tread pattern with directional-transfer variation for reduced road noise and improved driving comfort. The modified 4.2-liter V8 engine delivers 300 horsepower, according to Jaguar officials.

Willot said Dunlop and Jaguar share a rich heritage in motorsports, including six Le Mans victories together - from 1951 through 1988. Dunlop still participates in international sports car racing, and the Dunlop tires used in the Le Mans Endurance Series are designed, developed and manufactured at Fort Dunlop in Birmingham, England, adjacent to the Castle Bromwich factory where the new Jaguar XK is built.

Dunlop is a global tire brand with an excellent reputation among performance car enthusiasts. Well known for its prestigious original-equipment fitments and sports car racing heritage, Dunlop is also a key supplier to sport compact enthusiasts featuring “tuner” tire sizes and race series sponsorships.
