Dunlop Introduces 22-inch "Tuner" Tire for Sport Trucks
DALLAS, Feb. 1, 2005 - Dunlop Tires has introduced a 22-inch "tuner" high-performance tire for its sport truck series.
The Dunlop Grandtrek PT9000 - featuring a radical, directional high-speed tread pattern - is available in a beefy 305/40R22 size, H speed-rated (certified for speeds up to 130 mph) and specially tuned for luxury sport trucks.
Other versions of the low-profile tire are specified as standard equipment on high-end European performance vehicles. Andy Traicoff, director of Dunlop consumer tire marketing, said engineers in Akron, Ohio, modified the 22-inch tire for the North American market.
Traicoff said the "tuner" tire size is designed for "in-the-know" drivers who share a passion for performance driving and customizing their vehicles to reflect their personalities.
"Large sizes of the PT9000 make perfect sense to enthusiasts who personalize their vehicles. Since the tire shares tread patterns with its cousin, the ultra-high-performance SP Sport 9000 tire, drivers who know are attracted immediately to this sport truck version," Traicoff said.
PT9000's wider tread was modified to maintain the superb deep-water performance of the narrower sport truck tires, said Dunlop engineer Chris Raglin. "We increased the width of the intermediate grooves on the 305/40R22 size to provide additional water evacuation near the center of the tread."
Large outer tread blocks and high-angle open shoulder grooves provide responsive and stable cornering. A hard rubber bead apex delivers confident handling and predictable steering response, Raglin said.
Dunlop also carries PT9000 tire sizes in 255/50R20 and 275/40R20.
Dunlop is a global tire brand with an excellent reputation among performance car enthusiasts. Well known for its prestigious original-equipment fitments and sports car racing heritage, Dunlop is also a key supplier to sport compact enthusiasts featuring "tuner" tire sizes and race series sponsorships.
