Sunset Strip Artist to Ink Dunlop Treads at SEMA Show
LAS VEGAS Nov. 1, 2005 – Paul Timman’s favorite subjects might be Pamela Anderson and Angelina Jolie, but this week he’s inking a new passion – tire treads.
Dunlop tread patterns, to be exact.
Celebrity tattoo artist Timman, direct from Sunset Strip Tattoo – one of the largest tattoo shops in Hollywood – will be taking the stage at Dunlop’s SEMA booth to create exciting tread artwork. SEMA goers have the chance to get a tattoo and a set of tires, just for sitting still for Timman.
Andy Traicoff, director of Dunlop marketing, said, “Tattoos are cool, and what better way to show the ‘coolness’ of Dunlop tread designs? Paul Timman’s work is legendary, and we’re excited he’ll be showcasing Dunlop performance in his artwork.
“He and Dunlop should be the talk of SEMA this year, and that’s saying something at the premier automotive specialty products trade event in the world. SEMA attracts more than 100,000 industry leaders from more than over 100 countries and more than 2 million square feet of exhibits,” Traicoff said.
Besides Anderson and Jolie, Timman’s clients include Tommy Lee, Busta Rhymes, Drew Barrymore, Mark Wahlberg, Ben Affleck, Melanie Griffith, Mark Anthony, Nicholas Cage and Kiefer Sutherland.
Timman said he’s drawn tread patterns previously, but his specialties comprise traditional Japanese, Americana and authentic tribal.
The Toledo Ohio native attended the Cleveland Institute of Art. He tried tattoo as an art form 11 years ago, and he said, “I fell in love with it. I then went West and was lucky to get a job at Sunset Strip. We specialize in celebrity tattoos. I’ve been going up to J.Lo’s house and tattooing Mark Anthony.
“I’ve found it’s real easy to be a tattoo artist, but it’s hard to be a good tattoo artist,” Timman said.
When he’s not working, he enjoys riding motorcycles. Before he recently bought a house, he also raced and has a professional racing license. And for good measure, he only raced on Dunlop motorcycle tires.
